We have pioneered innovation, from the very beginning.
From the revolutionary aluminium construction of the earliest Land Rovers to the latest in sophisticated infotainment and connectivity, we have innovated to bring customers the very latest technologies.
From the skies to the road
The first Land Rovers were constructed using aircraft‑grade aluminium. With steel rationed in the post‑war years, engineers innovated their experience of aircraft manufacture, into the new 4x4 vehicle.
Another aviation technology brought to the road was the disc brake, adapted by Jaguar to racing cars in the early 1950s, helping them win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1953.
Today, our vehicles have moved from an era of analogue engineering, to a digital world of software and data management.
The computing power of today’s Jaguars or Land Rovers is far greater than the Space Shuttle, handling up to 21,000 messages simultaneously and at speed, over 100Mb Ethernet networks.
This enables tremendous sophistication, in vehicle and engine management, and in the features and connectivity available to the driver and passengers.

Next‑generation electrical architecture
The power within our vehicles comes from our next‑generation electrical architecture, called EVA‑2.
This centralises computing in the vehicle to three domain controllers, managing infotainment, driving assistance and connectivity. And it is always connected to the Cloud, via 4G and Wi‑Fi.
We have employed software over the air (SOTA) technology, to allow updates to be delivered in real‑time to key functions and services.
Cameras and sensors
We have innovated the use of cameras and sensors around our vehicles, to even render the vehicle itself invisible.
Our ClearSight technology combines up to five cameras and 14 ultrasonic sensors, to provide an interactive, 360‑degree view around the vehicle.
ClearSight Rear View allows you to switch between the interior mirror and a high‑definition screen, to show an uninterrupted view behind the vehicle.
ClearSight Ground View can render the front of the vehicle invisible, fusing the image of four front‑mounted HD cameras for a clear view of the terrain ahead.
Guidance and comfort
From the driver’s seat, you can appreciate our attention to the customer experience, through our innovative application of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Your Jaguar or Land Rover recognises you by your key, adjusting automatically to your preferred driving position and climate settings.
Your navigation learns your regular routine and journeys, suggesting destinations without you needing to set them. Infotainment suggests radio stations or audio sources and navigation knows when you’re driving in a familiar area, silencing instructions on roads you know.
Our smart climate control systems know how many people are in the car and where they are seated and will heat or cool up to four zones independently. Our latest innovation in climate is PM2.5 filtration, which can capture and purge ultrafine particulates and allergens, to ensure optimum air quality.
With the University of Cambridge, we are now developing ‘contactless’ predictive touch technology. This could reduce a driver’s touchscreen interaction by up to 50%, as well as limiting the spread of bacteria and viruses.
Calm sanctuary
Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles are known as calm sanctuaries and as our vehicles become even quieter through electrification, we are further reducing noise in the cabin through the innovative use of noise‑cancelling technology.
Working just like high‑end headphones, our latest Active Road Noise Cancelling technology analyses the road noise in the cabin and creates a neutralising sound frequency through the audio system, to cancel the unwanted noise.
Driving towards autonomy
Self‑driving cars remain a technology of the future.
But, Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles have several innovations making them always aware of their surroundings.
Rapid data processing allows our on‑board Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to assess radar and camera data every 20 milliseconds. These smart technologies sense the world around them, to keep you in your lane, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and even intervene to avoid accidents.
As part of our journey towards autonomy, we are actively researching and testing future innovations for autonomous vehicles, and the infrastructure required to enable them in our cities. Starting in 2025, all new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles will be built on the NVIDIA DRIVE™ software‑defined platform—delivering a wide spectrum of active safety, automated driving and parking systems as well as driver assistance systems. Inside the vehicle, the system will deliver AI features, including driver and occupant monitoring as well as advanced visualisation of the vehicle’s environment.
This full‑stack solution is based on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion™, which features DRIVE Orin™ centralised AV computers; DRIVE AV and DRIVE IX software; safety, security and networking systems; plus, surround sensors. DRIVE Orin is the AI brain of the car and runs the Jaguar Land Rover Operating System, while DRIVE Hyperion is the central nervous system. Additionally, Jaguar Land Rover will leverage in‑house developed data centre solutions with NVIDIA DGX™ for training AI models and DRIVE Sim software built on NVIDIA Omniverse™ for real‑time physically accurate simulation. Jaguar Land Rover’s software‑defined features and its end‑to‑end verification and validation architecture will enable the delivery of innovative assisted and automated driving services throughout the life of the vehicle via over‑the‑air software updates.
