- JLR offers around 4,000 Solihull plant workers health checks as part of Government pilot scheme
- 75 production line workers a day can take part in cardiovascular health checks over three months
- Aim is to assess employees, identify those with health issues, and refer them to their GP or one of JLR’s occupational health services
Gaydon, UK, 30 August 2024: JLR today announces it is offering on site health checks to approximately 4,000 manufacturing employees at its Solihull plant, aligning with the Government initiative to check people’s heath at work.
Production line workers at the UK’s largest car manufacturer can take part in a workplace cardiovascular disease check at its Wellbeing Centres in a bid to proactively identify workers’ health issues at an early stage.
Funded by Solihull Council, the scheme is part of a wider Department of Health and Social Care scheme to increase the number of people accessing free health checks, by encouraging local authorities to collaborate with local employers to carry out checks at work.
The cardiovascular disease checks, which mirror those offered by the NHS to those over 40 include: a blood pressure check; a cholesterol check; a height, weight and BMI check; and a lifestyle questionnaire.
JLR is investing £15m a year in its global health and wellbeing programmes because we know that healthy and happy colleagues help us to deliver high‑quality products and ensure a positive future for our business.
Health checks are a fundamental part of prevention and therefore feature in many of our programmes. Our collaboration with Solihull MBC on the Workplace Cardiovascular Disease Checks Pilot, presents a unique opportunity to work together on providing awareness and signposting for our employees.
We are excited to provide these vital checks to approximately 4,000 of our Solihull employees before the end of this financial year, thus supporting the great work of our NHS.
JLR Chief Medical Officer, Dr Steve Iley
It's brilliant to see how committed JLR is to helping staff stay on top of their health, through offering these vital health checks.
We know so many deadly diseases can be avoided if we seek help in enough time. That’s why we’re working with employers like JLR to improve access to treatment while also taking steps to address the preventable causes of cardiovascular disease.
In addition to the scheme at Solihull, JLR is offering free cardiovascular checks to employees at its other major UK sites as part of their LiveWell and LeadWell health and wellbeing programmes.
